Nancy Howe

Nancy Howe is a full-time wife and mother, a part-time model, a sheep
farmer and one of the nation's most talented painters. Although she has an Associate
Bachelors Degree in Studio Art, she is a self-taught wildlife and landscape artist.
Over the years she has won many awards and honors, but in 1990 her career took three major
steps forward. |

The
first came when her painting were selected for the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's
Exhibition, "Wildlife: The Artist's View." Another painting was then chosen as a
"Top 100" winner in the 1990 Arts for the Parks Competition. And in 1991 she won
the prestigious Federal Duck Stamp competition. No artist has won these three honors in
such a brief span, or even in a career.
Again in 1994, her painting "Spirits Fly" was chosen for the Leigh Yawkey
Woodson's Birds in Art Exhibit, and "Adagio", a winner in the Arts for the Parks
competition, is now on tour with the "Top 100" selections. And she has recently
been accepted into the Society of Animal Artists.
Much of Nancy Howe's time is spent in the field or doing research. When painting birds or
waterfowl she prefers to have them in hand, often utilizing frozen or mounted specimens.
She also studies habitat closely, sometimes bringing parts of trees, rocks and moss into
the studio where she paints.
"I hope I am always evolving as an artist, always reaching for the next level,"
she says. "We all need to continue growing into something beyond where we are. I'd
love to look back in ten or twenty years to see the path traveled and where my art has
taken me." |
